TARA ROBERTSON

Tara is a Contemporary dancer, Collaborator, Dance teacher, Mingunberri woman with Irish and Scottish ancestry. Tara holds a Bachelor of Dance Performance from Adelaide College of the Arts, graduating in 2007.

Born and raised in Darwin, Tara has been influenced by her childhood of being involved with the vibrant and multi-cultural dance community of Darwin, being taught cross-cultural practices, and working with companies such as tracks and Gary lang NT dance company. As a young person, she was engaged with regional communities, teaching and performing on large-scale productions. Tara has continued to carry these invaluable learning curves throughout her life, dance practice and her teaching practices.

Tara spent 8 years with Bangarra Dance Theatre. Highlights within the company include being nominated in the Dance Australia’s critic’s survey as an outstanding performer for her lead performance in BROLGA 2014, Long list Nominee for outstanding female performer for BLAK 2013 the remount of Ochres and spending time with their Cultural consultants on their country. This has always been an honour and deeply integral to maintaining respect and integrity whilst telling their stories on stage.

Tara left the company with a desire to flesh out and diversify her artistry, and her teaching methods.

Tara has continued to pass on knowledge through teaching to various institutions; PPY, Brent Street, Dance Central, facilitated a Choreographic intensive with EV&BOW second-year students, Dance Tutor at Methodist Ladies College and NAISDA.

Tara has recently been involved with two notable highly acclaimed multi-disciplinary choreographers, Vicki Van Hout with Legs on the wall, and Henrietta Baird the recipient of the First Nations Fellowship and award of the inaugural fellowship and has been involved with her development for Plant a Promise. Through working with Henrietta, Tara has been involved with the company Phunktional for its’ Beyond the walls project, working with youth at Juvenile justice centres.
